The word science comes from the word natural philosophy. The world science comes from Latin word “Scientia” which means knowledge (hypothesis, observation and experiments).
So, the word science may be defined as:
the knowledge gained through observation and experiments is called science.

Science may be classified into two branches
1. Biological science (deals with the study of living things. It is further divided into botany and zoology.)
2. Physical science (deals with the study of nonliving things. It is further divided into physics, chemistry, geology, astronomy and mathematics.)

Importance of chemistry
Chemistry is the branch of science unlike science, Chemistry has a lot of importance. The importance of chemistry is described as follows:
Medicine
We take medicine to recover/cure our self from a disease. Most of us take medicine on daily bases for different purposes. The medicines are recommended by the doctors to cure the patient. Chemistry helps pharmaceutics to understand the biochemical mechanism in a body. So, it is widely used in pharmaceutical industry because by using chemical products they made medicines to recover us from a disease.
Food and agriculture
Food has very much importance in our daily life, as we know that most of the chemical products are used in our daily food. For example, we use vegetables that are formed by using chemical products (insecticide, pesticide), different food products are also formed by using chemical products. These chemicals such as fertilizers and crop protection chemicals (insecticide, pesticide etc.) are used to increase the production of crops. After the production of crop, it is sent to the standard authorities to analyze the content of the food by chemical test and approve it for consumer use.

To establish a building chemical product are very much important. Chemistry also play its role in the formation of a building. Different polymers, coating chemicals, tiles and insulators etc. are used in construction.

Batteries are used by us in different forms such as in cars, cell phones, watches, flashlights, laptop, tablets, children toys, some medical treatment machines/instruments electronic machine’s in our homes etc.
These ate all the products of electrochemistry. So, the chemistry also plays its role in formation of battery and serves our life.
Beauty products
Beauty products are also formed by using chemicals in it. Beauty products are produced through chemical synthesis to clean, nurture and protect skin.
Industries
Chemical products are also important in industries. The industries that used chemical products are lather factories, cloth mills, Petrochemical industries, refineries, metal industry paper and pulp industry, textile industry, soap and detergent industry etc. all use chemical products for processing their products.
Transport
Chemicals are also important in transport industry. Aviation and power industry generate power through power plants which burns fuel. In petrol and diesel industry chemicals are also used.
Fuel
All types of transportation such as air, water and land are possible because of the fuel. Petrochemistry is the branch of chemistry which deals with study of petrochemical processes. Diesel LPG petrol CNG, kerosene, oils, hydrogen are all fuel produced from complex refining processes. These fuels are extracted from the crude oil found beneath the earth or ocean.

Chemistry has much more importance in every field.
The chemical products used by different industries gives benefits to a nation in growing up.
Chemical industry also involves in the generation of employment.
The production of chemicals increases the GDP of nation.
So, chemistry also contributes toward the growth of a country. In nutshell, we can say that, we cannot exist without chemistry.
